The Southern Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Coalition (SHFCC) is a nonprofit, member-based consortium formed to supplement individual southern states’ initiatives to grow and develop hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. Formed in 2004 to support the development, demonstration, and commercialization of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies in the southern United States, the SHFCC will focus on the broader picture of southern regional resources and interstate collaborative opportunities to develop, demonstrate, and commercialize these technologies.

SHFCC projects and activities will promote interstate cooperation and regional job growth to meet the needs of a market that is expected to grow to $15 billion by the year 2015.

GOALS of the SHFCC:

  • To identify federal, state, and local funding opportunities for fuel cell research, development, and demonstration projects originating in the south;
  • To create collaborative project teams from within a network of SHFCC members in response to those funding opportunities;
  • To develop niche market opportunities for viable fuel cell applications in the advanced transportation technology industry; and,
  • To increase the political visibility, support, and influence of southern hydrogen and fuel cell technology resources and capabilities.
  • To publish and disseminate project results to increase public and media attention to SHFCC members and their work.

The SHFCC is a regional initiative of the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE), an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization focused on advancements in transportation technologies, vehicles, infrastructure, and fuels that reduce environmental pollution and fossil fuel dependency.
